Nothing engages your creativity like music, and you’ve got a rare talent for the business. If you see yourself discovering the next Adele, producing the most-downloaded tracks, or promoting mega-benefit concerts, nothing prepares you for a music-industry career as well as Saint Rose.

Our degree is built on three equally weighted focus areas: music creation and performance, audio recording and music production, and music business and entrepreneurship, and equips you with the solid creative, technological, and business skill set you need to succeed in the fast-paced, multifaceted world of music.

Music B.A.

Music is your passion. You find music everywhere. Now you want to make it your career. Unlock the power of Beethoven with your own symphony orchestra. MUSIC EDUCATION B.S.

If you dream of sharing your own music experience, seeing your ensemble shine at a festival, challenging middle schoolers with Mozart or Holst, or teaching preschoolers to sing traditional American folk songs, no place readies you as well as Saint Rose. Since Saint Rose was founded, we’ve been successfully preparing music educators to teach in public and private schools.

Our rigorous training and hands-on fieldwork ensures that in four years you’ll complete the requirements for New York State certification in music, grades K-12, and graduate as a skilled, experienced music teacher who reaches students’ hearts as well as their ears.

Explore Music Minors

Our minor programs are available to both music majors and non-music majors.

General Music

Students who major in a field other than music have the option of a minor in music. The General Music Minor involves private study on instrument or voice, classes in music core curriculum, and participation in performing ensembles.

Jazz Performance

The jazz performance minor is a supplementary program of courses and performance experiences that give music majors a knowledge of and appreciation for the historical and stylistic features of jazz, America’s only original art form.

The jazz performance minor can be added to the B.S. in Music Education, B.S. in Music: Music Industry or B.A. in Music degrees.

Musical Theater

For music majors, an audition is required: two contrasting songs (approximately 32 bars in length) from the musical theater or Great American Songbook canon and a one-minute monologue. Music and monologue must be memorized.

Those entering the Musical Theater Minor for non-music majors are required to prepare one song (approximately 32 bars in length) and a one-minute monologue for placement into applied lessons and the acting styles sequence.

Pre-College Experience

This affordable, two-week program is designed for dedicated music students entering grades 8 through 12. Students share their excitement about music with other talented young musicians, and learning in such an immersive setting allows rapid progress in their craft.

2020 Pre-College Experience Canceled

Due to public health concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic, Saint Rose has canceled the 2020 Pre-College Experience. Registered participants should have received an email informing them of this decision. Families who have already paid a deposit for the Pre-College Experience will receive reimbursements via check. Contact Dr. John Dion, director of the program, at dionj@strose.edu if you have questions.
